Four-time Olympic gold medalist and gymnast Simone Biles is departing Nike to partner with Athleta, the clothing brand announced Friday.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Biles said the partnership gives her a platform to have "honest conversations" with women and work with a company that closely aligns with her values.
"I felt like it wasn't just about my achievements, it's what I stood for and how they were going to help me use my voice and also be a voice for females and kids," Biles told the Journal. "I feel like they also support me, not just as an athlete, but just as an individual outside of the gym and the change that I want to create, which is so refreshing."
Biles' deal with Athleta, a performance lifestyle brand owned by Gap Inc., will include her own activewear line. The brand also plans to support a post-Olympics gymnastics tour that Biles is planning herself, instead of the usual one run by USA Gymnastics.
Terms of the Biles and Athleta's deal were not announced.
